Apple Has Sold 1 Million iPads

Apple Has Sold 1 Million iPads

Apple has officially confirmed it has sold 1 million iPads. The company sold its one millionth iPad on Friday, April 30, just 28 days after the device’s release. More than 12 million apps from the App Store and 1.5 million e-books have been downloaded from the new iBookstore.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

So, now that the iPad 3G is finally available, what everyone wants to know is: How well is this thing selling?

According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, it’s selling very well — pretty much as well as the Wi-Fi only iPad, in fact. About 300,000 3G iPads were sold on launch weekend.

Munster surveyed 50 Apple stores to arrive at this number. He concluded that the iPad 3G is essentially sold out, as only one store in 50 didn’t sell all of the iPads it had in stock by Sunday. Munster estimates that the overall number of iPads sold is over 1 million, and expects overall sales in 2010 will reach 4.3 million.

If Apple indeed sold 1 million iPads, we will probably hear it from Apple very soon — the company likes to brag about big numbers. On the other hand, Munster was wrong before, so we should probably take his estimates with a grain of salt.

Set Up Custom Shortcut Keys in MS Word & Make a Cheat Sheet

Evolution gave us two hands, but hopefully it will continue on and give us a few more. Just two hands are hardly fitting for the digital age.

If we could total up the seconds lost in flitting between the keyboard and the mouse, I am sure it will add up to a nice round figure. That’s why keyboard shortcuts are important to learn and master. It’s not a difficult skill, we have to just key in patience and practice.

70 Fantastic Windows 7 Tips & Tricks For Better Functionality

70 Fantastic Windows 7 Tips & Tricks For Better Functionality
70 Fantastic Windows 7 Tips & Tricks For Better Functionality

Windows 7 is much better than the latest version of Windows Vista and it comes with a lot of new features. Unfortunately, some of them aren’t so easy to figure out, so I created a list of the most important tips and tricks and a step-by-step guide that will help you apply all of these great tips and tricks.

1. PC Safeguard

I rarely let anyone use my PC because I’m afraid he will mess it up, but it seems Microsoft has been thinking at me and came with a solution. The PC Safeguard doesn’t let anyone mess your PC settings, because after the user logs off, the configurations are reset back to normal. Of course it will not restore the configurations changed by you, but only the ones done by other users you define.

To use PC Safeguard, go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a new account, then select “Set Up Pc Safeguard” and switch it on. Then you can stay relaxed when others use your computer, because you won’t find anything changed, including configurations, downloaded software, installed programs.

2. Screen Calibration

How do I temporarily disable the startup scan in eset antivirus/smart security

By default, your ESET security product will scan programs and memory at startup. If your system startup scan is taking an unusually long time to complete, you may have conflicting programs set to run at start up. You cannot cancel the startup scan once it has started, but you can temporarily disable the scan from running on system startup by following the directions below:

1- Open the main program window by clicking the icon How do I temporarily disable the startup scan in eset antivirus/smart security in the Windows notification area or by clicking Start → All Programs → ESET → ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

2- Toggle to Advanced mode by clicking Change... in the lower left corner and then clicking Yes if you are prompted to confirm or by pressing CTRL + M on your keyboard.

3- In the left column, click Tools → Scheduler. The Scheduler/Planner window will be displayed.

4- Deselect Automatic startup file check | System Startup file check. | User logon. By default, this is the fourth option down.

How do I temporarily disable the startup scan in eset antivirus/smart security

5- Restart your computer. Your startup scan is now disabled.

Important! Disabling the ESET startup scan exposes your computer to risk and is only a temporary fix for a third-party application conflict. If possible, we recommend checking for other applications which are scheduled to run at startup and either deselecting their startup features or uninstalling the conflicting software from your computer. ESET is unable to provide support for other third-party applications.

Breaking In Windows XP Password

Method 1:

If you have an administrator account (Not Guest)

then the XP users’ passwords can be reset using command prompt.

Go to the task-bar and click on the Start button, then click on run and in the place given on dialog box type “command”, press enter.

Now In the Command prompt type “net user”
the screen will display the list of users available on machine

suppose there are three administrator users with the name of admin1, admin2 and admin3

then the password of any user can be changed by logging into the account of any one administrator

for example if we want to change the password of admin1

then we can change it from the following command

net user admin1 password

similarly for other desired users

The general syntax is for changing password is

net user

Convert any Folder into almost anything.

This is done by adding their respective registry keys to the folder’s name. After this when you’ll double click on the folder, either Control Panel, Recycle Bin, My Computer or Internet Explorer will open according to your choice. Actually that folder is then treated by Windows as a link to any of these four. The folder will remain intact with all its data and no one can access that folder via Windows. It can only be accessed via Command Prompt or some third party app.

To Convert Folder Into Contol Panel, Rename With Adding
    .{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

To Convert Folder Into Recycle Bin, Rename With Adding
    .{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

To Convert Folder Into My Computer, Rename With Adding
.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

To Convert Folder Into Internet Explorer, Rename With Adding
.{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

Eg:- If you have a folder ABC, to convert it into Control Panel, rename the folder as
ABC.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} After this, the key should disappear and act as an attribute. And if it doesn’t, then also no problem, as the folder will start working the way you want it to.

To re-enable your folder to be accessible via Windows, go to command prompt and rename the folder there. Eg:- If the folder is in C:TempABC, then get to C:Temp in the command prompt and type:
ren ABC.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} ABC

(Command Prompt supports CLIPBOARD. Copy-Paste will work there.)
Your folder will be back to normal state.
This method can be used to protect any data, but it will not provide reliable security to the data.
You can also search the registry for more relevant keys like these.

A Really Cool Weather App With Virtual Weather Display

A Really Cool Weather App With Virtual Weather Display

Today, I’d like to cover an innovative application that lets you view a real-time animated virtual weather “window” display. Sounds strange right? Once you start using it, you won’t be able to stop.

If you’re like me, you have the latest weather displayed on your phone, on your computer’s desktop and maybe even on the sidebar of your blog. You check the weather before heading out to work and before heading back home, and you check it before heading out for the weekend camping trip. Usually, weather apps consist of little more than text featuring the latest temperature, barometric pressure readings and maybe a forecast. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a virtual weather display that also gives you a graphical representation of what the weather outside looks like? This is exactly what YoWindow does.

Get a Glimpse of the Virtual World Outside Yo’ Window

Whether you’re in an office somewhere where there are no windows near you, or if you’d like to take a look at what the weather looks like somewhere else in the world – YoWindow transforms weather data into a visually rich experience. Installing YoWindow is quick and easy, and once you do you’ll be able to see a virtual weather display – a virtual representation of the world outside. The weather is animated over a virtual default background image, or you can use a picture of your own house (or snap a photo outside your real window!)

When you first install and run the app, you can immediately set up your location. Once you select your country and city, the virtual weather window displays a scene that represents the weather in your part of the world.

Windows Run commands you probably never knew

Windows Run commands you probably never knew

The Windows Run box is a very useful utility to launch programs and applications quickly. There are more than a hundred run commands that let you launch all sorts of built in Windows applications such as Control Panel modules, and system tools like Disk Defragmenter, Device Manager, Group Policy Editor etc. Most of these commands are well documented – you will find plenty of run command lists on the web, published and republished countless number of times. But I’m pretty sure you will never find the following commands in any of these lists.

Trick 1: Open your home directory

The home directory is located at C:\Documents and Settings\Username in Windows XP and C:\Users\Username in Windows Vista and 7. The quickest way to open this directory is to open the Run box (Win+R) and type “.” – a single dot. Then hit enter. Try it.

8 hacks to make Firefox ridiculously fast

8 hacks to make Firefox ridiculously fast

Firefox has been outperforming IE in every department for years, and version 3 is speedier than ever.

But tweak the right settings and you could make it faster still, more than doubling your speed in some situations, all for about five minutes work and for the cost of precisely nothing at all. Here's what you need to do.

1. Enable pipelining

Browsers are normally very polite, sending a request to a server then waiting for a response before continuing. Pipelining is a more aggressive technique that lets them send multiple requests before any responses are received, often reducing page download times. To enable it, type about:config in the address bar, double-click network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining so their values are set to true, then double-click network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and set this to 8.

Keep in mind that some servers don't support pipelining, though, and if you regularly visit a lot of these then the tweak can actually reduce performance. Set network.http.pipelining and network.http.proxy.pipelining to false again if you have any problems.

2. Render quickly

Large, complex web pages can take a while to download. Firefox doesn't want to keep you waiting, so by default will display what it's received so far every 0.12 seconds (the "content notify interval"). While this helps the browser feel snappy, frequent redraws increase the total page load time, so a longer content notify interval will improve performance.

Type about:config and press [Enter], then right-click (Apple users ctrl-click) somewhere in the window and select New > Integer. Type content.notify.interval as your preference name, click OK, enter 500000 (that's five hundred thousand, not fifty thousand) and click OK again.

Right-click again in the window and select New > Boolean. This time create a value called content.notify.ontimer and set it to True to finish the job.

3. Faster loading

If you haven't moved your mouse or touched the keyboard for 0.75 seconds (the content switch threshold) then Firefox enters a low frequency interrupt mode, which means its interface becomes less responsive but your page loads more quickly. Reducing the content switch threshold can improve performance, then, and it only takes a moment.

How To Double Your Internet Browsing Speed on Firefox

How To: Double Your Internet Browsing Speed on Firefox

There have been tons of Firefox hacks out there that have been covered to death, but we've recently taken some time out and run a side-by-side comparison on a couple of identical computers from the shop we had laying around. What did we find? You can essentially double your browsing speed if you're currently on a broadband connection if you just run a few simple tweaks. We have a set of three. That's not too many for you, right? Now let's get started.

Basically, what we found is that Firefox tends to eat a lot of RAM in exchange for quicker launching and handling of the browser. It's a pretty steep trade-off, and for those of us with tons of RAM and a broadband connection usually end up seeing no difference or at times, even slower performance than if these restrictions weren't enabled by default. Here's how to take them off and harness the full power of Firefox:

Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for it’s cache feature

Try this:

1) Type “about:config” (no quotes) in the address bar in the browser.
2) Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers”
3) Set it’s value to “0“;(Zero)

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages

1) Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter. (Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)

2) Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10.

This means it will make 10 requests at once.

3) Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New->Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)

This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now.

Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– >Interger or String

“network.dns.disableIPv6”: set “false”
“content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5”; (Five)
“ui.submenuDelay”: set “0”; (Zero)

Reduce RAM usage to 10mb when Firefox is minimized

This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized:

1) Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2) Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3) In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
4) Now select True and then press Enter.
5) Restart Firefox.

These simple tweaks will make your web browsing with Mozilla Firefox at least twice as fast and it's a pretty simple thing anybody can do. Enjoy and let us know if these steps helped you!

Tip 1. Defragmentation:

Having defragmentation at regular intervals makes your data arranged in a more systematic order which makes the hard drive work less for accessing any of the data. The more quicker in the move of hard drive, lesser work load on the battery which helps your battery to last longer.

Tip 2. Reduce Processes:

Try to reduce the background processes which are not required. Also monitor the resource as how much usage it is accessing with the help of Windows Task Manager (in Windows). Make sure that if you are not using internet, it is safe to stop the non required programs which are running in the taskbar like the antivirus and or the firewall. Remove not necessary programs which are running during start-ups by launching the System Configuration Utility from Run – Msconfig – Tab Startup. Unclick the programs which are not required to launch and restart the computer once.

Tip 3. Apply Scheduled Tasks for Time Being:

Programs such as defragmentation or a virus scan should be scheduled for a time being when you are close to a power outlet.

Tip 4. Unplug External Devices when not Required:

USB External devices are the biggest observers of battery power. Try to unplug external devices such as external mouse, PC cards, Wi-Fi, external speakers, Bluetooth, Pen drives, portable hdd and iPod.

Make Pen Drive To Reset Windows 7 Password

Make Pen Drive To Reset Windows 7 Password

Most of us have a PC at home and one at work. We use our work PC most of the times and home PC comparatively less. Did it ever happen to you that you forgot your Windows 7 Password ? Maybe you go for a month long vacations or business trip and when you are back, you may forget some of your passwords to the home Windows 7 PC.

We tend to have lots of passwords at work, online and at various computers. So to save yourself from a locked out situation, we recommend that you create a password reset disk.

In this article, I will share with you a very simple method to create a Windows 7 Password Reset Pen Drive. So next time you are locked out of Windows 7 at the login screen, you can plug in this USB pen drive in your computer and reset the Windows Password.

To create a Windows 7 Password reset pen drive, I advice to have a small capacity pen drive which is cheap and you should keep it at a safe place, but not so safe that you forget where you kept it when you need it sometime in future.

Follow these simple steps:

Step 1. Insert a pen drive (backup any data if present on the pen drive and delete everything). Then go to Windows 7 Start Menu and type “create password reset disk” in the start menu search and launch the program “Create a password reset disk ” which will be highlighted in the search results.

Step 2. Just follow the simple Password reset Wizard as seen below, by selecting the pen drive from a list of drives it will show you. Note: If you have not inserted a Pen Drive before launching the utility, it will not work and will give an error. If the pen drive is in place, you will see Wizard something like the images below. It will also ask for your current password to create a password reset pen drive.

Step 3. Now you simple need to keep this drive at a safe place. You can use this in case you forget your Windows 7 Password sometime in future, just click forgotten password on the login screen and choose the option to Reset Password after inserting this pen drive into any of the working USB ports of your computer.

NOTE: Windows will honor only the most recent Password reset disk that you have created, so in case you happen to create more than one disk, only the one which is latest will work, all other old password reset disk will not be able to reset the Windows 7 Password.

If you have not created a reset disk and have forgotten your password, you can still reset the password using some utilities like Windows Password Recovery Tool. But these processes may cost you little money if you need to buy a software to do that. So to avoid any inconvenience later, we recommend that you create a password reset disk.

How To Speedup Windows XP & Vista Boot

How To Speedup Windows XP & Vista Boot

You must read this guide, provided you are a Windows user. Though there are thousands of articles available, what sets this apart from the crowd is this is specially written by tweakwindows!. This guide will show you how to decrease the boot time of Windows to 10seconds. Let’s start with the basics first.

Instruction

1.Go to fonts folder. To open fonts folder, just type “fonts” in the Vista Start Menu or in Run dialog box.

2.Delete useless fonts that you won’t use. For those who don’t know, Windows takes enough amount of time to load all fonts during the boot process. Installing more than 100 fonts will significantly reduce your system boot speed.

3.Next major time killers are startup programs. These startup programs not only increases the boot time but also frustrates with pop ups in your system tray. Open “System Configuration” by typing “msconfig”(without quotes) in the Vista Start Menu Search box or in the Run dialog box. Under the “Startup” tab remove the programs which are not necessary at startups(Ex:Pc Suite,Pc Sync,Realtek voice manager). However, I prefer no programs at startup.

4.Next switch to “Boot” tab and select “No GUI boot” and click “Apply” to save the changs. If Windows prompts for restart, select ‘Exit without restart’ option.

5.This tweak is only for Vista with multicore processors (Dual, quad and octa core processors). Under the “Boot” tab of “System Configuration”, open the option named “Advanced options”, check the box named “Number of processors” and select the number of processors you have.Click “Apply”.

6.Navigate to “services” tab, remove unnecessary services (only if you are not using) like Parental Controls, Telephony, Remote registry, Fax, Ready boost to increase the boot speed.Remove unnecessary services only.

7.Download a free utility called “Bootvis” from here(works only for XP). Extract and unzip the file to Desktop and run the Bootvis.Go to Trace > Boottime+driver delays and reboot the system. Wait for a while to get further message and instruction from bootvis to proceed.Worst part is it doesn’t work with Vista.

8.Use the boot defragmentation feature in Winows. To enable go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction In the right side pane, right click on the option “Enable” and select “Modify”. Type in “Y’ to enable boot defrgmentation.

9.Defrag your C drive using Vista’s in-built tool. If you think the Vista’s in-built defragger is slow, you can use the free Defraggler software from here.

10.Fix all your registry errors with a freeware tool called CCleaner. Keeping the registry clean will boost your system performance drametically.

11.If you dual boot, select the default operating system to boot and also, lower the amount of time to wait for you make a selection.

12.If you are not using Floppy drive, disable it in the BIOS. If your BIOS supports Quick Post and Disabling Boot Delay, just enable those features.

13.One more boot time killer is Startup sound. You can disable this as follows:type “mmsys.cpl” in the run dialog box and hit enter. Navigate to “Sounds” tab and disable the option called “Play Windows Startup Sound”(only in Vista). In Xp, use the option named “No Sounds” from the drop down menu in the “Sounds” tab.

14.Never use third-party boot and logon screens as they slow down your boot process significantly.

15. updates your operating systems from Microsoft website.
