A Way to Clear Prefetch On Shutdown

A Way to Clear Prefetch On Shutdown

The Prefetch is a feature of Windows that actually speeds up the boot process. When Windows starts up, certain processes and programs must load. The files needed to start these are stored in the Prefetch folder. Windows automatically looks there for those files. If you clean out your Prefetch, it won’t hurt anything. But your next boot up will take longer, as those files are put back. My best advice is to just forget the Prefetch, and leave that folder alone.

1. create a new text file in the C:\ directory

2. type "del c:\windows\prefetch\*.* /q" (without he quotes)

Windows 7 in Pictures: 10 Cool Desktop Features

In anticipation of Windows 7 being released into the wild on Oct. 22, here is an up-to-date pictorial guide to the most compelling navigation and networking features of the OS.

Since the general beta release, Windows 7 has been through the testing ringer and has come out with mostly high marks for its speed, flexibility, user interface (UI) and networking features.

The starting point of all this UI efficiency is the revamped taskbar, which allows faster and easier management of application windows, while also adding some visual flair.

Some Windows 7 features that will unclutter navigation are clickable thumbnails that appear when you mouse over a taskbar button, jump lists and Aero Peek, which makes all windows transparent except the one you want to look at. On the networking side, HomeGroups links Windows 7 computers on your home network to share photos, music and videos through Media Streaming.

Here's the photo collection of 10 key interface and networking features new to Windows 7.

7 Most Useful Firefox Add-Ons

7 Most Useful Firefox Add-Ons

These heavy-hitting browser add-ons act like applications that could easily replace their desktop counterparts.

1.) Animat 1.04

With Animat, you can create short animation clips saved in the APNG (animated portable network graphics) format. Although Animat installs as an add-on, it pops open and runs in its own Firefox browser window.

You can import images from several file formats (BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG) and sequence them in any order to create your animation. For what's supposed to be used for simple animation editing, Animat features a surprisingly deep toolset to crop, resize, rotate or reframe your source images. You can even reconfigure the work area (where the source and preview animation windows, and frame-by-frame timeline are positioned) to your liking.

Report: Facebook caught sharing secret data with advertisers

Report: Facebook caught sharing secret data with advertisers
The privacy issues that have been hounding Facebook may be coming to a head. A report in the Wall Street Journal indicates that the Facebook, along with MySpace, Digg, and a handful of other social-networking sites, have been sharing users' personal data with advertisers without users' knowledge or consent.

The data shared includes names, user IDs, and other information sufficient to enable ad companies such as the Google-owned DoubleClick to identify distinct user profiles. Some of the sites in question, including MySpace and Facebook, stopped sharing the data after the Journal asked them about it. The surreptitious data sharing was first noticed (PDF) by researchers from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and AT&T Labs in August 2009, who brought it up with the sites in question. It wasn't until WSJ contacted them that changes were made.

What Happens When You Deactivate Your Facebook Account

What Happens When You Deactivate Your Facebook Account

Facebook is a big part of millions and millions of peoples' lives, but what happens when you pull the plug? Last night I met a man who walked to the edge of the cliff and nearly deactivated his Facebook account. He took a screenshot of what he saw after clicking the "deactivate my account" link on his account page - and it is pretty far-out.

That man considered quitting Facebook because it was having an adverse emotional impact on him and I'll spare him and his contacts from posting the screenshot he shared with me. I have posted below though a shot of the screen I saw when I clicked that button myself. Check it out. I bet you haven't seen this screen before, have you?

I’ve experienced 100s of Firefox add-ons, and have whittled them down to about two dozen I use on a regular basis — even out of these, I have favorites. Here are 4 I find both casually enjoyable and sheerly indispensable; I hope they add value to your browsing. Even if you’ve heard of them before, I share specific reasons why they’re so useful + fun (usefun!). All are compatible with the wonderful Firefox 3.

Mozilla Rallies Fans with Firefox 4 Plans

Mozilla Rallies Fans with Firefox 4 Plans
In an attempt to spark some momentum for Mozilla's open-source Web browser, Firefox team leader Mike Beltzner delivered a Web video presentation Monday night outlining the product's plans for the near future.
0diggsdigg

Beltzner outlined goals and dates for changes to Firefox's internals and user interface, with the caveat that they were subject to change. Firefox growth has recently stalled in the face of competition from Google's Chrome, and enthusiasm has been growing around other recent efforts such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview and Norway's Opera 10.5. Apple, too, has made waves lately with its Safari browser, a version of which is included in its hot CE devices, the iPhone and iPad.

Beltzner listed the three main goals of the plan, to make Firefox: fast, as in super-duper fast; powerful, enabling new open, standard Web technologies (HTML5 and beyond); and empowering, putting users in full control of their browser, data, and Web experience.

Downloading Movies really fast

Have you ever wanted to download a movie and didn't want to use Rapidshare, Hotfile Torrents or any Filehosting site and you didn't know how?
Well here's your answer.

This is how it goes:

1. You need Firefox ( http://www.mozilla-europe.org/de/firefox/)

2.then you need the addon "Downthemall" (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/201/)

3.After installing both of them you have to find a Movie-Stream-Website. (www.movies-links.tv would be a good choise)

Now you can search for any Movie on that site and look for a Divx-Movie-Link the best is Stagevu.

To download the Movie you have to go to extras in the firefox Window, and locate Down-them-all -Tools and then DownThemAll!...

Now a Window should open up and you can select where the files should be downloaded. You unselect everything exept movies and then there should be only 1 more link highlighted.

To start the download click start...

Now wait a short while depending on your Internet-connection and you will have the movie on your harddisk.

Hope you like this Post and don't hold me responsible for any activities. I only show how and can not be held responsible.

Easy Way to Make Money Online : $ 200 - $ 450 per Month

They do one thing consistently and that is they pay instantly!!!!!!

They seem to have a clear business model and show a level of sustainability that you normally do not see. Some people complain that it is not easy to make a lot of money with OnBux. I believe that OnBux is one of the best paid to click programs out there.

With the right strategy it is not hard to make a good amount of money consistently without the worry of the company disappearing tomorrow.

You need to pick a strategy and stay with it for the long haul with OnBux.

With a few minutes a day you can really generate a nice income stream with OnBux.

Below is a strategy for those that are just starting out with OnBux.

1. Sign Up: click here

2. Choose a time of day that you can click ads and eventually manage your referrals at the same time everyday.

3. Click all available ads everyday (when you get referrals this is necessary to earn from referral clicks).

4. Utilize all free methods of advertising to gain any direct referrals. Talk it up with your friends and relatives. Put a tagline on your e-mail signature. Post in forums. Use free traffic exchanges.

5. Once your account balance reaches $1. Transfer this money to your rental balance and rent 3 referrals. It is only $0.75 to rent the referrals but you will need the remainder to properly manage the referrals.

6. Put the autopay function on.

7. If a referral of yours has not clicked today or yesterday and has click average of less than 2.0 then recycle it ($0.08) and get a new referral. If they have a click average of between 2.0 and 4.0, I will give them 3 days before I recycle them.

8. I will give those with an average of over 4.0 seven days to return and click just because I would hate to recycle a great referral just because they were on vacation for a week.

9. Whenever, one of your referrals goes below 20 days before next payment pay to add another 30 days. Below 20 days, the autopay function does not work and you will not get the savings for that referral.

10. Every time your account balance reaches $1 transfer the money to your rental balance.

11. At first when you are only making a couple of cents per day it is important to keep enough in your rental balance to maintain your recycling activity because you can only transfer in $1 increments. Once you can complete this transfer and have at least $2.40 in your rental balance rent another 3 referrals.

12. Continue this process until you are making a $1 a day in your account balance.

13. At this point you can begin renting in bigger chunks of referrals every 7 days. Never rent a number of referrals that is greater than 33% of your existing totals as these will become difficult to manage through recycling with your earnings.

14. It will take a while but continue the above listed process until you reach 500 referrals. At this point stop renting and just maintain your referrals.

15. Accumulate the earnings until you can pay for the upgrade to golden.

16. Once golden, maintain your referrals as before. Every week continue to rent referrals until you hit the 2000 refs mark.

Any money that you are not sinking into referral maintenance or renting is profit for you. I believe that OnBux is one of the best paid to click programs out ther

Google introduces drag-and-drop in GMail, proves yet again that HTML 5 is the future

Google introduces drag-and-drop in GMail, proves yet again that HTML 5 is the future
HTML 5 seems to be rapidly evolving as the future of web computing. And the world’s most popular web-based company is pushing the technology like never before. Google recently included a drag-and-drop feature in the company’s email application a.k.a GMail. In case you are using Firefox 3.6 or Chrome 4, you can now simply drag any document and paste it to your email/message window, just like you would in most desktop applications. The moment you ‘drop’ the file, GMail will automatically attach the document with the composed email.

Thanks to the new APIs that are part of HTML 5. Although the drag-and-drop feature was initially introduced in Google Wave, the company went a step higher by introducing this to GMail, which has well over 140 million users. The browser support for drag-and-drop is currently the biggest hurdle. Currently this feature is only supported by Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 4. Although Safari supports the drag-and-drop API, the feature doesn’t quite work when you use it with GMail. In case of IE 8 it is not supported at all, although you can use Google Chrome Frame as a workaround.

Revert and Change to XP Classic Logon Screen on Windows 7 or Vista

Windows 7 and Windows Vista includes a Welcome screen as the default logon screen, which will be displayed on boot up for system where the individual user has its user account password-protected, or system with multiple local or network user accounts. In Welcome screen, the list of user account names or IDs or the user name of last logged in account is displayed for easy selection.

For users who prefer the Windows XP-style or Windows 2000/NT-style classic logon screen, where all user accounts are hidden from the Welcome screen, where no last logged on user name is displayed, and where both username and password is required to be typed to log on, just make use of the same trick which makes Windows does not display last logged in user name on logon screen, as detailed below.

Method 1: Via Registry Setting

1. Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).

Great Tweaks for Vista

Great Tweaks for Vista

Love it or hate it, Windows Vista is here to stay as the default operating system for those buying PC laptops on the market today. We all know Vista requires more hardware power, such as 2GB of RAM being almost a necessity to get decent performance, but are there Vista OS and software tweaks you can do to improve performance without buying better hardware? There certainly are, and our forum members are working together to collect them all.

1. Disable TMM

This tweak is responsible for about a 3-5 second delay and blank screen flash when you start Vista. It searches for external monitors but is unnecessary.
If you are not using an external monitor, or don't switch back and forth always then turn TMM off. This is responsible for a 3-5 second pause and blank flash you get when turning your computer on.
Here's how to fix that annoying black flicker on boot:
1. Go start/control panel/administrative options/task scheduler.
1. On the left-hand side, click "Task Scheduler Local" (you should already be there, but just in case).
2. Expand "Task Scheduler Library," then "Microsoft," then "Windows," then click "MobilePC."
3. Up top, you'll see a task called "TMM." Click it, and on the right-hand side, click "Disable."
4. You're done!
Start time reduced and blank flash gone!!!!

Syntax Search Tricks:

Using a special syntax is a way to tell Google that you want to restrict your searches to certain elements or characteristics of Web pages. Google has a fairly complete list of its syntax elements at

Code:
www.google.com/help/operators.html

. Here are some advanced operators that can help narrow down your search results.

Intitle: at the beginning of a query word or phrase (intitle:"Three Blind Mice") restricts your search results to just the titles of Web pages.

Intext: does the opposite of intitle:, searching only the body text, ignoring titles, links, and so forth. Intext: is perfect when what you're searching for might commonly appear in URLs. If you're looking for the term HTML, for example, and you don't want to get results such as

Code:
www.mysite.com/index.html
, you can enter intext:html.

Link: lets you see which pages are linking to your Web page or to another page you're interested in. For example, try typing in

Try using site: (which restricts results to top-level domains) with intitle: to find certain types of pages. For example, get scholarly pages about Mark Twain by searching for intitle:"Mark Twain"site:edu. Experiment with mixing various elements; you'll develop several strategies for finding the stuff you want more effectively. The site: command is very helpful as an alternative to the mediocre search engines built into many sites.

Top Ten Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

Top Ten Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

Facebook privacy policies keep going down the drain. That's enough reason for many to abandon it. Here you will find nine more:

After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. The altruism part is that I think Facebook, as a company, is unethical. The selfish part is that I'd like my own social network to migrate away from Facebook so that I'm not missing anything. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account.

10. Facebook's Terms Of Service are completely one-sided

Let's start with the basics. Facebook's Terms Of Service state that not only do they own your data (section 2.1), but if you don't keep it up to date and accurate (section 4.6), they can terminate your account (section 14). You could argue that the terms are just protecting Facebook's interests, and are not in practice enforced, but in the context of their other activities, this defense is pretty weak. As you'll see, there's no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt. Essentially, they see their customers as unpaid employees for crowd-sourcing ad-targeting data.

9. Facebook's CEO has a documented history of unethical behavior

From the very beginning of Facebook's existence, there are questions about Zuckerberg's ethics. According to BusinessInsider.com, he used Facebook user data to guess email passwords and read personal email in order to discredit his rivals. These allegations, albeit unproven and somewhat dated, nonetheless raise troubling questions about the ethics of the CEO of the world's largest social network. They're particularly compelling given that Facebook chose to fork over $65M to settle a related lawsuit alleging that Zuckerberg had actually stolen the idea for Facebook.
